Speaker Introductions

John Boehner
Former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives (2011–2015)

A former small businessman, Mr. Boehner became involved in politics after seeing firsthand how high taxes and red tape impact entrepreneurs. Voted into Congress in 1990, Mr. Boehner’s reputation as a reformer grew as he helped craft the Contract with America and fought for the first balanced budget in a generation. As Chairman of the Education & the Workforce Committee, he wrote legislation to expand school choice, strengthen America’s pension system, and reduce government spending. As Republican Leader, he led the opposition to “cap and trade” and ObamaCare while promoting better solutions to the challenges facing American families.

Mr. Boehner served as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015, leading the drive for a smaller, less costly, and more accountable federal government. He focused on removing government barriers to private-sector job creation and economic growth, cutting government spending, reforming Congress, and rebuilding the bonds between the American people and Washington.

Mark and Scott Kelly
Highly decorated NASA astronauts and retired U.S. Navy captains

Captains Mark and Scott Kelly are heroes who exemplify courage, leadership and sacrifice. The American astronauts and identical twin brothers have careers as remarkable as they are similar. Both Kelly brothers served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as experienced aviators and decorated Captains, prior to becoming astronauts and starting their illustrious careers with NASA in 1996.

Now retired after 15 years with NASA, Mark spent more than 50 days in space and commanded both the Space Shuttle Endeavour, including its final flight in May 2011, and Space Shuttle Discovery. He is one of only two individuals who have visited the International Space Station on four different occasions. As America's first year-round astronaut, Scott’s record-breaking Year In Space spanned from March 2015 to March 2016. The historic mission also included NASA's groundbreaking Twins Study, monitoring Scott from space and Mark on the ground in an unprecedented experiment to understand how space affects the human body.
